SQL Server
on your Mac.
If you work with SQL Server or Azure SQL on a Mac, your options got thinner. SQL Server Management Studio runs only on Windows, and Microsoft retired Azure Data Studio on 28 February 2026. SQLAtlas is a Mac app that connects straight to SQL Server, with nothing to install on the server.

What works.
- SQL Server sign-in with a user name and password, Microsoft Entra ID (interactive, password or service principal), or an Entra access token you paste in
- Named instances or a port; TLS certificate and host name checks on by default, and TDS 8.0 strict encryption
- Through an SSH tunnel to a server that is not exposed, with the host key pinned
- Browse schemas, tables, views and sequences; run T-SQL in a full editor; edit rows safely
rowversioncolumns are used to make sure nobody else changed a row before you save- SQL Server
datetimevalues that SQL Server would round are refused instead of silently changed

Azure SQL Database
and Managed Instance.
SQLAtlas knows the Azure endpoints and ports, keeps certificate checks on, follows Azure's redirect policy only to hosts in the same Azure SQL domain, and retries short Azure outages while connecting, never a statement that was already sent. Session notes show the compatibility level and whether you signed in as a contained database user.
Azure SQL support is built in and tested against a local SQL Server set up like Azure (certificate-verified TLS, contained users). A run against a live Azure SQL instance is on the pre-launch checklist.

Edits that can't
overwrite a colleague.
Every save checks that the row still holds what you read. On SQL Server, a rowversion column makes that check exact. If anything changed, nothing is written.

Why not just a VM?
A Windows VM for one tool costs memory, licences and attention. SQLAtlas keeps passwords in your Keychain, never phones home, and never changes your server's date format, language or time-zone settings.
Moving off SQL Server?
SQLAtlas Pro converts SQL Server and Azure SQL databases to MySQL or MariaDB, with every lossy type mapping left to you. How a conversion works
